Grant Money Pimping: Chants and Percussions of the Maldives

Musicians of the island of Kuda-rikilu – Bandiia Dzehun (Type Moderne)

A bandiia is a receptacle used to carry water from the well to the kitchen. Dzehun means “to beat”. Together they form a music and dance that is preformed by women during the religious festivals on the Maldives islands. From one of my favorite discs on the legendary Ocora label.
